A little day trip to the Springs to visit a friend and her kiddos inspired a random baking project. Really, I will take anything involving people and make it into an excuse to bake, because when you don't have children to spoil or a store front to sell things in, you can't really justify baking delicious treats for just yourself and your husband to taste test, because it would surely result in us weighing 300lbs.
So this little cupcake doesn't look like anything special...
...until...
What better way to seal the end of a fun day with friends and a couple of little ones? Just a yellow cake batter (from scratch) spiked with color, and milk chocolate buttercream topped with some simple decorating sugar.
I have noticed though that any time I've made cupcakes with two different batters and tried to stack or marble the two in one, they come out a little dry... Even when both batters alone bake up very moist at the same temperature and timeline. Just another thing to improve on in the future.
